Hilton Head Fishing Charters — Fall 2020
Update: Sept 13, 2020
Fall 2020 is off to a great start for fishing charters in Hilton Head. We’re just coming out of a good late summer season and water temps are entering that “sweet spot” for the next few weeks. The big red drum will be coming into the sounds to gather for spawning. This means we don’t have to go far for BIG FISH action! Between the huge bull reds and the occasional late season sharks, there is no lack of excitement on an inshore trip. While I think we are past the peak on the tarpon bite, there are still some to be found.
The King Mackerel action is picking up on the nearshore reefs as well as closer. Seeing real nice clarity in the green water just outside the influence of Port Royal Sound. Lots of spanish, and yes, still an occasional cobia. We’ve even caught and released cobia in the river (near BRB) surprisingly recently.
A common question we hear on fishing charters is: “When is the best month for fishing in Hilton Head?” …THIS IS IT! Well, mid-September through mid-October is what I’d call a “perfect” time for fishing. From far inshore to far offshore, there is good action just about everywhere, and the difficult part is figuring out what you want to target on a given day because there are too many choices: Deep hole shrimp, small reds in the creek, bull reds in the sound, nearshore trolling, offshore bottom fishing, and even wahoo at the ledge. It’s ON.
